The most civilized of the human factions on Mirrodin, the Auriok survive through diplomacy and trading with the leonin. Strong fighters, the Auriok rely heavily on magic to temporarily nullify or dismantle the threatening constructs that roam too close to their homes in the Razor Fields.

The Auriok are the humans dwelling in the Razor Fields, a resourceful, persistent, and resilient people. Auriok skin is naturally deep bronze, flecked with glimmering, deep golden and silvery metal. This is then reinforced with gold panels and jagged plates. Their white hair bleaches to help reflect the almost permanent sunlight that falls across the Razor Fields.

The Auriok are acclaimed swordsmiths and armorsmiths; their scavenging and resourcefulness, combined with their need to fight off the dangers of the Razor Fields, have contributed to their skill in metalworking. Auriok outposts are deceptively ramshackle; although architecture is not their strongest suit, the Auriok defend their settlements with powerful magic and melee.

The Auriok are not a unified nation; each settlement is essentially its own tiny city-state, with rules and governance largely unto itself. In lieu of a grand military force, Auriok settlements are protected by the Accorders - a troop of traveling Auriok soldiers and spellcasters that move from community to community as needed. The Accorders enforce Auriok law impartially, following the principles of the Accord of Equity, a sort of statement of rights for the Auriok people.

The largest Auriok settlement is Bladehold, a center of commerce and artisanship built on a mesa above a huge swath of particularly tall and sharp razorgrass. The most celebrated Auriok fighters train in the dense razorgrass. Bladehold soldiers invented a technique called mirroring, in which one uses one's reflection in the surrounding blades of razorgrass to confuse an enemy and gain positional advantage.

The weaponsmiths among the Auriok people call themselves edgewrights using a borrowed leonin term. Edgewrights don't just enjoy being crafty - they feel reverence for their crafting materials. They spend long hours under the suns, scouring the Razor Fields for the perfect specimens of metallic razorgrass to forge into edged weapons. Auriok artificers are skilled fighters as well as creators; they must be deft enough to fend off the glint hawks and steel rhinos of the Fields and the Glimmervoid before they can prove their skills in the forge. Auriok edgewrights craft their own weapons, forging a connection to the steel with each blow of the hammer.

The Auriok have a tradition of using names as battle cries. The Auriok are a tightly-knit community of scavengers and soldiers, bound together by ties of family and custom, and nothing offends an Auriok more than an unjust death. The screamed name of a fallen ally is enough to inspire deep and heartfelt loyalty to an accomplished knight, battlemage, or other battlefield leader.

Instead of a centralized government, the Auriok self-govern in small communities, all of them defended by the Accorders. The Accorders are a troupe of roving soldiers and peacekeepers that enforces law across the Razor Fields. In wartime, the Accorders have become valuable cavalry and elite infantry for the Mirrans, and they've spread far and wide the Auriok tradition of screaming out names to inspire their comrades in battle.

Recently, Accorders have taken to calling out the names of banesaints, loathed figures from Auriok history, to stir the feelings of hatred required for battle with Phyrexia. As the Mirrans have learned more and more of the names of ranking Phyrexians, these hated Phyrexian names have also been called on the battlefield to harden hearts and strengthen resolve.
