Mutant biology and origin
It is somewhat of a paradox that we ‘’civilized’’ people called the Mutants outcasts, corrupted or abominations as we are directly responsible for their very existence. Industry will always bring pollution and waste. I guess humans did bring a part of their bad habits from Old Earth as they slowly are polluting this planet to it's core.
In a way dwarves are as responsible as humans. They mined the planet deeper than they probably should have and, while their waste wasn’t as toxic as ours, they are responsible for the wastelands created in their war with the elves.
When the price of living in a city gets too high, when you get exiled, when you don’t feel you belong in a society, there isn’t much you can do but leave to the only inhabited place, the Wastelands. A large field of radioactive waste and remains between the elven forests and the Imperium ruins; it was thought to be uninhabitable. Until enough people actually started living there that they formed a society that is.
The good thing with mutant society is that there is no racism among them. Elves, dwarves, humans and even cyborgs are all equal there. Problem is that it is still a toxic wasteland they live on. While they did not die from living there, they were twisted and corrupted by their environment. Their skin hardened and changed in odd ways, crystals started growing on their body as if they were mushrooms and extra limb appeared on newborns.
What Naturals call abominations are actually highly adaptive beings that transcended what they once were. In a way, it was logical for them to join the Evolved camp as they consider themselves at a higher stage of evolution than any other being on the planet. Recently they even started using the radioactive waste to power their technology and started cleaning the wasteland to recycle what could be reused.
The Psypher’s arrival
The crash of the Psypher was both fortunate and a terrible tragedy for the mutants. The result psionic discharge from the crash stabilized the mutants DNA and from it emerged a some kind of general mutant. A strange fusion of elven, dwarven and human traits characterized what is now known as the second generation of mutants. While the second mutation is still something recent and being studied, it seems that those new mutants are somewhat superior to their predecessors in almost every way possible.
Unfortunately that means the apparition of a divide in the mutant community. First gen and second gen mutant relationships are getting tense and it is possible that soon a conflict could erupt. A new cult called the Sons of the Psypher is gaining a lot of traction as of late and has started a very aggressive propaganda against the first generation and the Evolved. It is not confirmed that this cult has ties to the Naturals but they seem to have a similar vision toward augmentations.
Since the Psypher crashed in the middle of the Wastelands it was the mutants that first encountered the ethereals. While at first they feared them, with the generation shift and the habit of living near the obelisk, the two races have started to get friendlier toward each other. While a good number of ethereals are now allied to the Naturals, it is due to the mutants that there are some ethereals following the way of the Evolved.
