The Ark
The massive ship that carried the 50000 humans to their new home. It was named The Second Ark by it’s creators in reference to Noah’s Ark in one of Old Earth’s many religions. A 37 kilometer diameter sphere built entirely from the Japanese’s Moon shipyard over the course of 12 years, it is the crowning achievement of Nova. It was divided in several zones like the housing area, the barracks and the geodome and could support, not only 50000 humans, but enough livestock to feed everyone on board for 10 years and then still be able to implant them on the new planet.
The geodome was particularly important as it was where most of the rare fauna and flora from earth was kept and where scientists monitored the Ark. Regrettably, due to it draining a lot of the Ark’s resources and the resulting riots from the crew, only about 10% of the original items made it to Neo Terra, and only 1% was able to be implanted successfully.
After the arrival of the Ark on Eden, it was converted to the first building on the planet and most all of the non vital components were stripped and repurposed in some way or another. The barracks were moved outside of the Ark before anything so that the remains of humanity could be protected. Lead by General Elliot Barton, the military (about 10% of the population) fended off the wildlife for 3 days before a security perimeter could be firmly established. It is reported that there was no casualties during those 3 days.
When the crew of the Ark was safe, it was finally able to go outside and start building important facilities like the housing district and the command post. The Ark was slowly slimmed down to a 1 by 2 kilometers building for science research and to monitor the people.
The Others
For 7 days it seemed that they were alone on the planet. The previously sent probes either didn’t find life other than animals or lost signal and were never heard of again. During the 7th night, it was revealed to them that they were far from being alone.
A group that is estimated to 50 people, attacked the crew, killing 9 guards and taking 6 civilians. From the description of one of the soldiers that night, a certain Cig Klint, the hostiles were tall, almost 7 or 8 feet in height but moved in an agile way, almost cat-like. He writes in his report that they were physically thin and that their ears were elongated and their eyes glowed a strange blue light in the dark. By then the civilians were on edge, legends from Old Earth resurfaced, the others were hastily called Elves.
During the 8th night there was no incident, but on the 9th night 2 more guards were killed and 19 civilians were taken while the open air garden was burned by the Elves.
An electric fence was erected around the perimeter of the compound and for 2 months there was no sighting of the hostile force.
During that time, the camp became somewhat of a town and was named Genesis by the Ark Captain Bernard Simon Laroche. The members of the Exodus were comprised of only a few ethnicities from Old Earth. From the manifest we know that:
- 1995 were from the 1st Republic of Quebec
- 359 were from the Island of Italy
- 4583 were from Spain
- 968 were from the Swiss Corporations
- 12000 were from the United States of America
- 9658 were from the German/Russian Alliance
- 16357 were from the Eastern Asian Empire which regrouped Japan, the 2nd Republic of Korea and China.
- 4080 were from the Egyptian Emirates
It took 2 years for the Genesians to be able to communicate with the Elves. During that time, the few expeditions outside the walls were either completely wiped out or came back bruised and traumatized. It was while examining an elf prisoner that Dr. Ellen Nguyen slowly learned the bases of the elvish language and was able to communicate with the subject. She learned about their culture and history vaguely but most importantly learned why they got attacked.
The people were not taken to be sacrificed to some savage gods like the rumor at the time implied. They were taken because the elves could, somehow, feel that they were sick. The humans were treated in the villages and since an electric fence was built there they were never returned.
Dr.Nguyen was able to convince Captain Laroche to let her trade the prisoner for the lost crew members and the rest is now part of the new History known as Reconciliation Day.
The Schism
In nearly 85 years, humanity jumped up so high in scientific knowledge that there was close to no Old Earthen technology still being used. The discovery of the Psykronite crystals (psy crystal) pushed the boundaries of science and as genetic and body enhancement technologies became able to upgrade every part of humans, elves and dwarves two philosophies gradually surfaced.
The ones calling themselves the Naturals were the most numerous. Roughly 75% of the population identified themselves to the idea that purity was of the essence. Any non-organic implant was seen as twisted and a perversion of the natural way. While genetic manipulation was getting more and more popular it seemed that everything cybernetic was pushed to the secret and black markets began appearing left and right offering cyber implants and Psy Tattoos.
Quickly modified humans earned the name of cyborgs or borgs. They became outcasts of society and great racism was imposed on them. They formed around in small societies that grew bigger each day and chose a name as an answer to the Natural term: The Evolved.
It was inevitable that civil war would break out and after 18 days of conflict, Neo Tokyo and Cairo were nothing but ashes and ruins. the Naturals banished every single ‘’Evolved’’ away from civilisation. In just 18 days, humanity had lost 20% of its members and was now divided in two.
It is actually the war between Humans and Borgs that convinced Elves, Dwarves and Mutants to join either side. Tired of becoming side casualties most of the Elves joined the Natural faction. Dwarves were divided on subject too and the result split their community in almost exactly two. Mutants were late to join a side, but when the council of the Evolved sent an ambassador to their sparse villages they took the opportunity to re enter civilization.
While the Natural were far superior in numbers, the Evolved had sturdier soldiers and a better technology that allowed them to stand a chance in the conflict.
War last for another 35 years before coming to a stand still. Both factions drained of their energy and resources stopped warring against each other and began rebuilding their cities. ‘’Peace’’ lasted 14 years, until the Psypher crashed on Eden.
The Nova Exodus
No single entity on Old Earth could foresee such an event. No one had the clairvoyance except one organisation: Nova. More than just a billionaire’s pet project, Nova was a cutting edge research facility where the biggest mind on the planet constantly pushed back the limitations of science. They brought to Oldterrans the technology to colonize new planets where everyone else was still struggling with keeping a space station functional. They virtually eradicated every virus and cancer plaguing mankind, they made personal flying vehicles cheaper and sturdier, they even where able to artificially inseminate a woman with an artificial spermatozoide, creating the first ‘perfect’ human.
What seemed like a golden age for humanity was, in fact, the end of everything. Every single project funded by Nova had the purpose of preparing for the death of Old Earth. Polluted beyond saving and with a climate changing exponentially as time went by, the planet could not support the 11 Billion people inhabiting it anymore and so, instead of fighting for what little resources were left, Nova planned a massive human exodus.
Time has lost how they convinced people to join them, how they built such a massive fleet to accompany the even more gigantic ark and even how they found Neo Terra; but something is still clear: Nova single handedly saved humanity from being lost and forgotten.
The Second Genesis
It’s been 10 years since the Psypher crashed on Eden. The shockwave not only created a massive crater in the middle of the mutant wastelands but also gave psionic capacities to some people across the planet.
From the giant obelisk, a race of beings made of pure energy was found, completely amnesic to everything before the crash, the Ethereals. They’ve slowly assimilated themselves to the Edenian society as their bodies slowly are gaining physicality.
The peace between the two ruling factions is now getting weaker and minor skirmishes are starting to happen at the border of the two territories. The Evolved have started sending armed group to try and harvest the Psypher, hoping to obtain knowledge from it that could take them to a new stage of evolution. The Naturals, fearing the space object, sent their own expeditions to try and deny the Evolved of their goal.
Now, as the two factions are bracing for war, alliances within them are waning and treason seems omnipresent. The new generation of mutants, stabilized by the Psypher’s crash, is suspected of working with some Naturals. The elves are starting to retreat to their forest and have elected their first king in 500 years. The dwarves have started developing an addiction to the planet’s unique psionic crystals.
