Vorel of the Hull Clade is a human-merfolk hybrid. He appears as a finfolk (bipedal humanoid with fish-like features).
The human biomancer Vorel was formerly the leader of a small Gruul clan. But when he gave the order to concede territory to a growing Boros garrison in order to secure his own clan’s turf, the clan turned on him. He was nearly killed before escaping.
Vorel, as a member of the Gruul, was a shaman of sorts. He brought these skills and the mindset to the Simic, discovering that his strategic mind actually lent itself well to being a member of the Simic rather than the Gruul. He wasn't a perfect fit for the guild, though; his emotionally charged background still shines through from time to time, leading him to be a bit more emotionally driven than others in the Combine.
"I used to hurl rocks and eat scraps of meat burned over a fire. Look at what I've become and tell me Simic does not hold infinite possibility." (Vorel)
"A regression to ancient forms? A glimpse of future evolutions? Or a fleeting alteration of the present?" -Vorel of the Hull Clade (Biomass Mutation)
"Everything serves a purpose. Even you." -Vorel of the Hull Clade (Plasm Capture)
"When the Simic say to take command of your life, we don't mean just your career." -Vorel of the Hull Clade (Beetleform Mage)
"We're planting the seeds of change. Sometimes, we plant them in people." -Vorel of the Hull Clade (Forced Adaptation)
